In the village of the Jade River, a hardworking youth named Liang spent his days tilling the soil alongside his wise old ox. One sweltering afternoon, his ox guided him to a hidden cove. Peering through the weeping willows, Liang beheld Zhi, a celestial weaver who spun the night sky. Stranded on Earth without her magical robe, she looked at him with gentle wonder. They soon built a beautiful, simple life together, bridging the mortal and the divine.

Their joy angered the heavens. The Queen Mother of the West tore the sky apart, creating the swirling chasm of the Milky Way to separate them. Yet, touched by their devotion, the magpies of the world flew up to form a living bridge across the starry river. Once a year, Liang and Zhi meet on this bridge, proving that no distance is insurmountable when two hearts are willing to wait.
